KARACHI: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani revealing the statistics of floods’ devastations in country said Wednesday that worst deluges in the history of Pakistan have wreaked havoc with the 20 percent of country’s total area. Also he said floods have washed away tens of thousands of acres of farmland, Geo News reported.
PM Gilani was addressing to the attendees of the reception he hosted in honour of his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan here in Governor House late Wednesday.
The Premier termed the devastations brought about by flash floods as greater than tsunami, Haiti earthquake and Pakistan earthquakes in the year 2005.
On the occasion, PM also expressed gratitude to Turkish government and people in lending Pakistan government financial help to address flood-inflicted havocs.
“Hundreds of precious human lives, thousands of cattle, standing crops worth billions of rupees were lost by floods and the economic suffered unbearable loss”, he observed.
Asking for more international aid, the Premier said the government of Pakistan is doing whatever it can to rehabilitate flood affectees, adding that international community must step forward to standby Pakistan in this hour of lurch.
The Turk-Pakistan bilateral trade volume will widen to $2billion till next year, he informed.
Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country was looking forward to enhance investment in Pakistan for restoration of devastated infrastructure on continuous basis.
“It is our compulsory duty to aid flood affectees of Pakistan”, whom he termed the brothers of Turkish public, adding that there is no parallel example in the history of the world like the closest relations the Turkish and Pakistani people enjoy.
Lauding Pakistani government and people’s support extended to Turkish people, he said: “Pakistanis have always shown active help to our people whenever we suffered any turmoil.” |
