 Free plastic surgery for cleft lip patients from Tuesday

Free plastic surgery for cleft lip patients from Tuesday ISLAMABAD: A 10-member medical team comprising top plastic surgeons, specialists and senior doctors will start treatment and perform cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries from Oct 26.

The surgeries, treatment, medicines, hospitalization, stay and food will be provided absolutely free to the patients by Pakistan Cleft Lip and Palate Association (PCLAPA) which has been doing this charitable work since 1995.

The surgeries will be performed at the 26th camp which will start at PCLAPA’s dedicated Bashir Hospital, Railway Road, Gujrat, on Sunday (Oct 31) and continue till Friday (Nov 5).

Before the surgeries start, outpatients will be examined at Islamabad on Thursday (Oct 26) and in Gujrat on Friday and Saturday (Oct 29-30).

Dr. Ijaz Bashir, secretary General of PCLAPA, said children with cleft lip and cleft plate will be operated upon, by a team of internationally distinguished plastic surgeons, specialists and paramedical staff, as has been done during the previous 25 similar camps, arranged by PCLAPA over the past 16 years.

So far, 2,033 children have been operated upon with 100 percent success, and completely cured at these camps. Their entire lives have changed since then. More than 10,400 children and other patients have been examined at the camps.

More than 150 patients are already registered for surgery at the forthcoming camp. More patients can be registered now and during the camp, and operated upon, if the doctors so decide, on a case-to-case basis.

The Islamabad Chapter of PCLAPA is chaired by Dr. Akhtar Rehman, a former Director and Administrator of King Fahd Hospital, Taif, Saudi Arabia.

Patients, in advance of the surgery, are registered with Dr. Ijaz Bashir, at Bashir Hospital, Railway Road, Gujrat, telephone: (53) -3521102 or (53) -3524139, or 053-3536711.

Patients from Rawalpindi-Islamabad region, Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas can also be registered with Dr. Akhtar Rahman, in Islamabad, and operated upon in Gujrat.
