KARACHI: Pakistan snooker team here at the Jinnah Terminal landed in a bizarre mess up, when it arrived at the airport a day earlier than scheduled for boarding the flight to Austria for participation in the World Snooker Championship due to perhaps some oversight or over-eagerness of the Pakistan Billiard and Snooker Association (PBSA)’s officials availing the foreign trip.
Pakistan team comprising of two cueists Saleh Muhammad and Khurram Agha accompanied by Manager Abdul Wahid Qadir and PBSA president, Alamgir Sheikh early Saturday morning had arrived at the Jinnah Terminal departure lounge for taking a flight to Austria en-route Doha, when the immigration officials pointed out to them that they had arrived a day earlier, as their visa was actually valid from October 26. The officials in their over-eagerness for enjoying a trip to Austria had misread the date as October 25, which had landed the snooker team in a ridiculous situation, as it had to return from the airport forlorn.
PBSA president Alamgir Sheikh in an exclusive interview told Geo News that they had applied for visa effective October 25, which was received so late that they couldn’t find time to check up the actual date. He said that the snooker team would definitely participate in the Snooker World Championship, as it would now fly on Sunday and would arrive Vienna in the evening a day earlier than the commencing of the Championship on October 27, in which, cueists from over 40 countries would be participating.
