ISLAMABAD: Police have registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan for forcefully securing the release of arrested party workers from police custody.

Case No. 201 lodged in the Secretariat police station states that Imran Khan and his accomplices stopped the police vehicle carrying arrested workers while it was on the premises of the police station. Khan got the arrested workers released and fled.

The case also mentions interference in official matters and violation of section 144. Apart from Imran Khan, the FIR includes Saifullah Niazi, Raja Ghazanfar, Raja Masood, Ali Shah, Khurram Nawaz and Jameel Abbasi.

Following the incident, police in the early hours of Monday surrounded Imran Khan’s residence to re-arrest PTI workers whom Khan had gotten released thorough intimidation.

According to Geo News correspondents, at least 1,500 policemen were present outside Khan’s Bani Gala residence repeatedly asking for the PTI workers to be handed over.

However, the police contingent was called back for unknown reasons.

Geo News also showed footage of a row between Khan and police in which the former cricket-star-turned politician could be seen yelling at the law enforcers: “Are you cops or thieves, why did you pick up peaceful people, you have violated the law”.
