Obama telephones Nawaz Sharif
ISLAMABAD: US President Barrack Obama telephoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ahead of his visit to India where he will be attending Republic Day parade as a chief guest January next year.

According to BBC Urdu, the US president on Friday took Mr Sharif into confidence regarding his planned visit to New Delhi.

Obama discussed Islamabad and Washington’s efforts to make Pakistan a stable, prosperous and a safe country.

Reiterating commitment to end extremism and terrorism, both the leaders agreed to bring peace and stability to the region.

The US president also welcomed Islamabad’s improving relations with Kabul’s newly installed government.

Obama told Sharif that Washington wants progress in bilateral relations between Pakistan and India.

Obama had accepted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation for a visit to New Delhi to attend the Republic Day parade.

Barack Obama will be the first US president to attend the event in New Delhi which is marked on January 26.
