No executions to be carried out in Punjab today

LAHORE: No executions of death row inmates will be carried out in Punjab today (Monday), Interior Ministry sources told Geo News.

The sources said mercy pleas of three death row inmates had been sent to President Mamnoon Hussain. Two of the death row inmates were convicted of attacking military installations while the third was convicted of carrying out an attack on a civilian target.

According to the ministry sources, these convicts will be sent to the gallows after their appeals are rejected by the president.

Six executions have been carried out in Punjab since the government lifted the ban on the death penalty for convicted terrorists last week.
