SSP Malir calls MQM a terrorist outfit, recommends banning it

KARACHI: In a startling revelation, SSP Malir Rao Anwar on Thursday said that the two terror suspects arrested overnight belong to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), recommending that the party should be declared as a proscribed terror outfit.

Speaking at a press conference held at his office, he said Tahir alias Lamba and Junaid belong to MQM and were involved in terrorist activities on the behest of India.

Anwar said that the two suspects were trained by Indian intelligence agency RAW. Both are employees of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), he added.

The SSP claimed that the MQM was working against Pakistan to benefit the enemies.

“Hamad Siddiqui, Mohammad Anwar and Zulfiqar Haider help out the terrorists present in the MQM ranks,” claimed the senior police officer. “Farooq Saleem and Nadeem Nusrat also assist them,” he added.

The SSP Malir went on to say that terrorists were running a country-wide terror network.

Answering a question regarding a possible reaction by the accused, SSP Anwar said that anyone found involved in hooliganism against police would be dealt with accordingly.

He said suspect Junaid was MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s specially appointed person, adding that he also worked for Hussain’s property business.

The arrested suspects, on the occasion, told the media that they used to receive directions from Mohammad Anwar. Tahir alias Lamba said that his accomplices have fled away to Bangkok.

“We received a month-long training in India,” he claimed.

“I belong to MQM and Farooq Saleem and Hammad Siddiqui used to pass on the directives to us in Karachi.”

Meanwhile, sources told Geo News that Saulat Mirza – a former MQM worker and a death row inmate came into fame by his severe allegations against the party earlier in March – had also disclosed financial assistance from India during a recent interrogation by a JIT formed after his confession video.

MQM's reaction

Dismissing allegations hurled at the party, MQM leader Wasay Jalil termed today’s press conference by the SSP Malir continuation of media trial against it.

Syed Ali Raza Zaidi, another MQM leader, said that the fresh allegations hurled at the party would strengthen the demand for a separate province out of Sindh.

The MQM has also announced to hold a press conference in response to the statement of the SSP Malir later in the evening.

Mustafa Azizabadi dismisses allegations

Speaking in the Geo News program “Capital Talk”, MQM leader Mustafa Azizabadi said that terrorists belonging to Al Qaeda have been recovered from residences of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leaders, adding that the latter should be banned instead.

Allegations like these have also been leveled against his party in the past referring to ‘Jinnah Pur’ accusation hurled at the party in 90’s.

Accepting that the two suspected presented before the media today belonged to MQM, Azizabadi said that they were arrested earlier in the year and subjected to police torture during the custody to get statements of police’s likings.
