PIA fires employees arrested in London over smuggling of stolen phones

Pakistan International Airlines has fired two of its employees who were arrested in London from the Heathrow Airport.

Scotland Yard confirmed to Geo News that two two cabin crew members of PIA were arrested in the departure lounge of Terminal 3 of Heathrow airport on Monday 12 October. "A 38-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. They were taken to a west London police station and have since been bailed to a date in late November."

The crew members were from PK786 flight to Islamabad and have been identified as Nadeem Anwar and Saima Butt.

PIA sources said the crew members were carrying stolen phones, one piece each. These phones were reported stolen to the police by the original owners.

When asked why under him the incidents of PIA crew members being arrested while carrying stolen phones has gone up, PIA UK manager Asim Babar says he cannot answer whether PIA is cooperating with the police or not and why there is so much increase in thefts. "I deal with sales only and not with rest of the matters and PIA in Pakistan can answer what's going on."
