Worst democracy far better than dictatorship: President

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari vowing to make Karachi a model city of Pakistan within next three years said that even the worst form of democracy is far better than dictatorship.

He expressed these views while addressing the cheque distribution ceremony of the affectees of Bolton Market on Friday.

The President stated that he himself had contacted the MQM, visited nine zero to solve the problems of Karachi city while he has taken ANP and other political parties on board.

He stated that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had initiated the process of reconciliation while the PPP led incumbent government was implementing this process now adding further the President said that even the worst tenure of democracy was better than dictatorship.

President Zardari said that the people Pakistan and Sindh have never lost their courage and faced the problems bravely in any time of distress while Pakistani nation is the most honest in world. He said that if there was any problem in Karachi Altaf Bhai and he remain in contact with each other.

Addressing the ceremony the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the Federal and Provincial governments have compensated the affectees of Bolton Market because the government was cognizant of the difficulties and miseries of the traders while PPP and MQM shown their sympathies with the affectees.

He stated that the affectees of Bolton Markets himself made the assessments of their losses while they were being compensated within a month.

On this occasion the Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad said that the citizens of Karachi businessmen and the political parties have contributed and supported the affectees of Bolton Market. He said that the people of Karachi have shown national spirit after this incident.
