Torrential rains hit Lahore, second time this week

LAHORE:  Torrential rain hit the provincial capital of Punjab once again, the second time this week.

Rainwater inundated low lying areas including Laxmi Road and over 100 Lahore Electric Supply Corporation (LESCO) feeders triped causing power outages. LESCO is trying to restore electricity, officials said.

The metro bus remained operational as rainwater inundated Ferozpur Road. Meanwhile rainwater also accumulated on the runway of Walton Airport. 

Flight schedules at the Allama Iqbal International Airport were also disrupted by the heavy rainfall with many flights being diverted to alternate airports.

Two inbound flights from Kuwait were diverted to Multan, while another flight from Dubai was also diverted to Multan.

After the weather conditions improved flights diverted to Multan were then brought back to Lahore.

Following delays an international airline pilot refused to take operate a flight back to Dubai, stating that doing so would make him cross the duty time limitations and thereby create a security risk. Due to the pilot’s decision 270 passengers were offloaded and accommodated at hotels or sent back home.

Due to the inclement weather multiple flight bound for London, Dubai and Islamabad were delayed by over two hours causing difficulties for passengers.

On Thursday a child was killed was killed when the roof of a house collapsed in Manawa area. Water had also entered the premises of the Supreme Court Registry in Lahore while the roof of Punjab Assembly began to leak due to heavy rain.
