SUKKUR: Brother of 18-year-old ‘honour killing’ victim confessed to murdering his sister after he was arrested by local police on Sunday.

The brother, named Javed Lakhan, said he killed his sister in the name of ‘honour’ and that his father had nothing to do with the murder, according to SSP Sukkur Amjad Sheikh.

Police arrested Javed along with the weapon used to kill the girl.

Before the arrest, it was reported that the father of the girl, with his son’s help, had killed the girl.

Qurban Ali Lakhan, from Rahoja, was said to have shot and killed his daughter who had returned home a month ago after a quarrel with her husband.

Citing the victim’s recent activities as suspicious, the father and brother had allegedly forced the girl out in the streets where they had openly fired at her and fled the scene.

Police had brought the victim’s dead body to a local hospital where after a post-mortem it was returned to the girl’s heirs.

No case has yet been registered against the act, according to latest reports. Police have said that if the victim’s parents do not register the case, the government would register the case instead.
