JIT to probe Aug 22 Karachi violence

KARACHI: A decision has been taken on Monday to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the August 22 violence in the metropolis.

According to sources, the decision was taken due to the anti-terrorism clauses present in the case pertaining to the violence.  The JIT would comprise officials from different agencies.

Police informed Geo News that 45 people including three women have been arrested in connection with the violence.

Earlier on Monday, Director General of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Major General Bilal Akbar said that August 22 violence was an organised act. He added that MQM’s Labour Division acted as a facilitator in the attack.

Special Committee to investigate MQM chief's speech

A special committee will be formed to look into the MQM chief’s controversial speech through legal and constitutional aspects, sources said.

According to sources, the committee will be made under the supervision of Attorney General Pakistan Munir A. Malik.

The committee would comprise all four interior secretaries, secretary law and justice and other officials, sources said.

MQM chief’s inflammatory speech during the MQM hunger strike incited party workers to take to the streets, ransack media houses and vandalise property on Aug 22.
