Struggling to make knives for Eid-ul-Azha

KARACHI:  The Eidgah iron market in Pakistan’s largest city is known for producing knives and cleavers which are used for sacrificing animals on Eid-ul-Azha.

What is supposed to be the busiest time of year for workers at this market is in fact turning into a test of patience.  Sitting idle for hours workers at this market are waiting for electricity so they can resume work.

The market succumbs to an eerie silence as electricity is disrupted and becomes filled with noise as soon as the workers get electricity back.

Some workers continue work through gas cutters but the majority still has to wait for electricity.
