Islamabad police solve mystery of girl's murder

ISLAMABAD: Police have solved the murder case of girl, whose body was found bundled inside a suitcase in Islamabad a few days ago, and identified her husband to be the suspected murderer.

Police had recovered body of a young girl bundled inside a suit case from Sabzi Mandi area in Islamabad, a few days ago. The girl was identified as Anum, according to officials, who was apparently strangulated to death.

CCTV footage of the vicinity showed a taxi-driver throwing away the suitcase, from which the body was recovered.

Police, however, have untangled the case and found the victim girl's husband to be the alleged killer. The girl had secretly married a man named Usman Saleem.

Usman lived in Saudi Arabia, while Anum was in UAE, according to officials. He reached Islamabad on September 22 and asked Anum to come to Pakistan as well.

The suspect allegedly killed his wife after calling her to his friend's flat on September 25, officials said. He bundled her body in his friend's suitcase and threw it under a flyover near Sabzi Mandi.

Usman had then travelled to Lahore and therefrom left for Saudi Arabia the next day.

Sources said Usman was already married to another woman from whom he has three children. Police had rounded up his friend, Basharat, on suspicions of having facilitated the murder, who detailed everything during interrogation.

Officials have issued red warrants for suspect Usman and contacted the Saudi authorities for his handover.
