Last remnant of terrorist party removed from Governor House: Nehal Hashmi

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senator Nehal Hashmi said on Friday that the Governor House had been purified of the last remnants of a terrorist organization.

He was speaking to journalists after the new Sindh Governor Saeed-uz-Zaman was sworn in. "The last sign of a terrorist organisation has been removed from the governor house," he said, adding that 14 years ago a representative of Muttahida Qaumi Movement founder was made governor.

"Anti-Pakistan people with the help of Musharraf managed to occupy the Governor House. Now people who love PML-N are in the governor house," he said. 

Nehal Hashmi said that in the nine-year-long rule of the dictator, crime, murder and target killings had increased in the city.

He added that the new governor will help maintain peace in the city. "A man who truly abides by the constitution and law has now been made governor."

The PML-N senator said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had begun an operation in Karachi three years ago.

PML-N distanced itself from Senator Nehal Hashmi's statement turning former Sindh governor Ishrat ul Ebad's exit into the 'last remnants of a terrorism organization which had laid siege on the governor house'.

Speaking to journalists State Minister for Information, Maryam Aurangzeb said Hashmi's statement was his personal opinion and not the party's official statement.

Hashmi later clarified himself. Speaking to Geo News he said, "I had not called the Governor a terrorist. I said he was appointed during the dictatorship of Pervez Musharraf, and the new Governor has been selected by a democratic government."

Muttahida Qaumi Movement London leader Nadeem Nusrat called the statement by Nehal Hashmi irresponsible.

"Such people should be kept away from the media," he said. 

He said that the PML-N itself knows where it stands when it comes to popularity in urban Sindh.

Sindh gets a new governor

Oath taking ceremony of the new Sindh governor Justice (R) Saeed-uz-Zaman took place on Friday at the Governor House.

Chief Justice Sindh High Court (SHC) Sajjad Ali Shah administered the oath to the newly-appointed Sindh governor, after which he would formally take charge of his responsibilities.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Assembly speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, DG NAB Colonel Siraj Naeem and several other ministers attended the ceremony.

The decision to replace the governor for Sindh was made at a recent meeting between President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Geo News learnt. After which, the Presidency issued a notification of Zaman's instatement as Governor on Wednesday.

Dr Ishratul Ebad vacated the Sindh Governor's official residence and flew to Dubai from Karachi airport early Friday, after being replaced by Justice (R) Saeed uz Zaman.

Ebad left the Governor House in wee hours of Friday with complete protocol to reach the airport.

Praying for Karachi`s peace in his last-minute-talk with media persons at Karachi airport, the former governor appealed people to pray for his well-being. He, however, declined to comment on his future plans and return to country.
