Hitmen in Karachi invent new way to dodge investigators

KARACHI: The infamous death squad in Karachi has invented a new way to dupe investigators and avoid arrests at the hands of police and Rangers in connection with high-profile killings in the megapolis, sources told Geo News Friday.

"These terrorists and hitmen switch firing pins or strikers of their weapons after every incident, which leaves a non-identical mark on the bullet casings, making it difficult to trace them to a weapon used earlier," sources said.

The mark of a firing pin is like a signature and a bullet shell found with a non-identical mark on its back does not establish its link with a firearm used in an earlier incident. Consequently, the forensic report suggests use of a new weapon.

The practice puts the investigators in a mess to establish their possible connection with previous incidents, which can be of great help in identifying the killers. As a result of it, the law enforcement or intelligence agencies have to renew their search for the culprits.

The perpetrators involved terror attacks or sectarian killings have been using this strategy in the megapolis.

"The strategy was instituted in recent months and the hitmen have dodged the sleuths in several serious crimes," sources added.

This has also been confirmed by intelligence agencies, senior officials and detectives.
