PSL fixing scandal is sad and unfortunate, says Kumar Sangakkara

DUBAI: Kumar Sangakkara, the former Sri Lankan captain and the skipper of PSL team Karachi Kings, has said that the incident of corruption in cricket that hit the Pakistan Super League on Friday was sad and unfortunate.

Two Pakistani Cricketers, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif, were subsequently sent home after initial investigations into attempt by international syndicate to corrupt the Pakistan Super League. Three other players were questioned too, but they all were later cleared to continue playing the league.

Kumar Sangakkara, who is captaining the team Karachi Kings in the second edition of Pakistan Super League, said that the incident was unfortunate and sad, the former Sri Lankan batsman also praised the PCB and PSL for taking a prompt action on reports of corrupt and unwelcomed activities.

“The authorities have done a great job, it is sad but we now need to move on and play the game in the right spirit,” Sangakkara said, after the match against Quetta.

“It is unfortunate that it has happen,” he said.

The former captain said that it is responsibility of everyone to keep the game clean from corrupt practice and maintain the respect of the sports that we all play.

“We have to play the game and we have got a great responsibility to ensure that we respect the game and to ensure that we never groomed for any sort of corruption,” the former Sri Lankan captain commented.

Shahzeb Hassan, one of the Karachi Kings’ players, was also questioned over the incident, however he was cleared to play and participated in the match against Quetta Gladiators.

Kumar Sangakkara said that Shahzeb was, although a little bit upset but in good frame of mind and played confidently before getting out.

“I had a chat with him, he was in very good frame of mind. He was a bit rattled like anyone would have been,” he said.

“Player from our team was cleared from everything and he’s clear to play. So we are back 100% on field today,” Sangakkara said.
