Najam Sethi resolves to uproot corruption from cricket

PSL chairman Najam Sethi has clarified Pakistan Cricket Board’s line of action over the ongoing controversy surrounding the spot-fixing scandal and the involvement of the Federal Investigation Agency in the probe.

In an interview on Score, Sethi said that the board needed FIA’s assistance over forensic evidences; however, the agency took up the case in wider public interest.

He also said that both PCB and FIA are going to work in tandem to investigate the matter thoroughly and root out corruption from cricket.

Regarding Nasir Jamshed, the PSL chairman told that the board has been in touch with the suspended player through his lawyer. However, since Nasir Jamshed cannot leave UK until the investigation concludes, the board has sent the England and Wales Cricket Board a letter, requesting them to arrange a meeting with the former batsman in High Commission on the proposed dates. As such, a session will help the board gather necessary information to present before the tribunal, which will begin questioning suspended cricketers Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif from Friday.

Answering a question related to alleged involvement of Mohammad Irfan and Shahzaib Hasan, Sethi said that the two remained under scanner throughout the league but were given the charge sheet only when the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit had gathered enough evidences against them.

The chairman also lauded Irfan for his candid statement and cooperation with the board.

About the players proven guilty of spot-fixing in the past, Sethi said that the board cannot prevent them from making a comeback after they completed their punishment and the ban was lifted.
