KARACHI: Muhattida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Sindh government came at loggerheads once again after MQM vice-chairmen of District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) in Karachi refused to take government vehicles on Saturday.

Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar also stood with the officials and called government vehicles “political bribe”.

It is sorry state of affairs that Sindh government has given vehicles to officials but there are no vehicles to lift trash in this mega city, said Akhtar while speaking to media during a visit to Shah Faisal Colony.

“We want those vehicles which benefit the people,” he said, adding “people’s money should be spent on helping people.” Instead of cars for government officials, we need vehicles to clean the city, he urged.

The people pay their taxes yet the city is in a bad state, he remarked. “However, we will continue to work [for the betterment of the city] in the limited sources available to us.”

He added, “so many fire tenders in the city are not functioning properly. I asked for more fire tenders instead of vehicles for public servants about two months back.”

He also urged the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairmen and vice-chairmen to return their vehicles and help facilitate people.
