Zalmi to take gold medalists from Special Olympics winter games to UAE for PSL 3

KARACHI: Pakistan Super League team Peshawar Zalmi, continuing their program of spreading smiles through cricket, has announced to take Pakistan’s gold medalists from Special Olympics winter games to the United Arab Emirates for the third edition of Pakistan Super League.

The franchise owner Javed Afridi termed these special athletes as real heroes of the country and expressed his determination to continue to support those who are doing something special for the country.

“We will continue to support such people, the government should also come forward and contribute to encourage our athletes,” said Afridi during a reception in honour of Pakistan’s special athletes.

The Peshawar Zalmi foundation also announced prize money of Rs100,000 each for all the 16 athletes who won different medals at the Special Olympics winter games in Australia.

Pakistani athletes won three gold, seven silver and six bronze medalists in the recently concluded Special Olympics winter games in Australia.

Sabahat Tariq won the gold medal in 100m race, Huzaifa Qazi secured gold in 200m race while relay team comprised of Sabahat Tariq, Farah Ehsan, Ramsha Naeem and Fatima Aamir won a gold medal in the 4x100m race for Pakistan.

All the gold medalists will be Peshawar Zalmi’s guests during the third edition of Pakistan Super League, of which dates are yet to be announced.

Earlier this year, Peshawar Zalmi had sponsored around 20 cancer survivors from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital to Dubai for the PSL. The franchise, in the first edition of PSL, had also invited students of APS Peshawar to the United Arab Emirates.
