A polio supervisor was gunned down in the Peeple Bazaar area of Bannu on Wednesday.
Sources said attackers travelling on a motorcycle fired at the health worker and then fled the scene.
Further investigations are under way by the local authorities.
Polio workers and officials providing them security are frequently targeted across the country by militants opposed to the immunisation drive for various, obscure reasons.
Pakistan is one of two countries — other being Afghanistan — where polio still remains.
In 2016, 19 cases of the crippling disease were reported from Pakistan.
