ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry criticised on Thursday making opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, calling it logically incorrect that ‘younger brother is conducting audit of elder brother’s projects’.

The federal minister was speaking to media outside the parliament house, where he alleged that the opposition is not letting the assembly function properly and putting hurdles in the way of constituting committees.

Chaudhry said that making Shehbaz PAC chairman is a dishonest step and despite making the decision, the opposition did not let the House carry out the session.

“Those who have been caught should defend themselves in the courts,” said the federal minister.

Fawad Chaudhry said that the lawmakers continued discussing the NAB and cases in the session due to which public issues have been put on the backburner.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government today conceded the chairmanship of PAC to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif, almost three months after a stalemate over the key position.

The PTI government had long stuck to its stance that the opposition should come up with any name other than Shehbaz Sharif for the chairmanship, but the opposition was of the view that past traditions of the National Assembly should be honoured.
