LAHORE: Dacoits escaped with 70 tolas worth of gold, 7 kilogrammes of silver, Rs16 million in cash, and bonds after carrying out a robbery Sunday night here at a jewellery shop in the city's Rang Mahal Bazaar.

According to police, the dacoits cut a grill into the shop from its rooftop and entered via the staircase to avoid storefront break-in. They allegedly cut the wires of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras as well.

Asif, the owner of the jewellery shop, confirmed that some 70 tolas worth of gold, 7 kilogrammes of silver, Rs16 million in cash, and bonds were looted from his shop. The dacoits broke lockers with the help of gas cylinders.

A request to file a first information report (FIR) of the robbery has been submitted in the Rang Mahal police station, Asif added. Police confirmed they had received it and said they would register the case soon.

Following the request to register the FIR, authorities went to the shop to collect evidence.
