KARACHI: Police were frantic Thursday night as a dispute between two Chinese friends, visitors to Pakistan, played out publicly on the metropolis' Shahrah-e-Faisal and a number of officers turned up to soothe the tensions.

According to details, not long after Wang and his friend were on their way in the car, they had an argument. Upset over the disagreement, Wang asked the driver to stop the car in the middle of the thoroughfare, refusing to ride any further with his companion.

As the row intensified, he stepped out of the car near Drigh Road and went to a corner to gather his thoughts. His worried friend, the girl, also left the car to talk him down and pacify him but her attempts remained futile.

Personnel from the security cell, concerned for the safety of the couple, tried to have them return to the vehicle but their efforts, too, were to no avail.

Seeing Wang stubbornly standing at this random place, the officers then called for back-up, to which Safdar Mashwani, the station house officer (SHO) at the Shahrah-e-Faisal police station, responded and promptly arrived at the scene accompanied by a heavy contingent of police officers.

Mashwani left no stone unturned in his bid to help settle the matter but could only manage to convince them to go to the police station with him. There, he had them sit down next to each other and offered them water.

Some time went by, and viola! The couple talked it out and let go of their squabble. By now, Wang's anger had subsided as well and they decided to go their own way.

As the evening paved way for the night, the two thanked the police officers for their concern and cooperation and left the Shahrah-e-Faisal police station.
