He once wanted to return contract money to Qalandars. Now he’s a match-winner

KARACHI: Pakistan’s young pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi has credited Pakistan Super League franchise Lahore Qalandars for instilling in him the confidence to give his best under any circumstances.

Talking to Geo.tv, Afridi recalled the boost to his confidence when he came to the PSL from U19 circuit and shared the dressing room with stalwarts like Brendon McCullum.

“When I came to PSL, I was a fresh graduate from U19 team. It was a new experience for me to play against top cricketers and in this scenario, Lahore Qalandars gave me confidence which will always remain with me,” the 18-year-old said.

The fast bowler also shared how last year, when he was unable to perform for a time, he went to the Lahore Qalandars management to return the money paid to him as part of his contract.

“I was very disappointed, so I went to them but at that time they expressed full confidence in me and that helped me to make a strong comeback in the tournament,” he said.

Sameen Rana, the COO of Qalandars, termed Shaheen as an asset for Lahore Qalandars.

“Shaheen is a very talented bowler, he has achieved new heights because of his talent,” he said.

“Our contribution to him was to give him the confidence that he needed. He was down when he couldn’t perform earlier but we told him that he’s our best and he can win it for us.”

Rana further shared that Qalandars believe in motivating players because it’s the players who have to perform in the ground.

“It’s is important to value your players and give them confidence,” he added.
