PML-N not to be part of ECP matters, other amendments

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz announced on Monday that it will not be a part of any matters related to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and any amendment through legislation, primarily due to the ‘attitude of the government’.

PML-N leader Khawaja Asif was addressing the National Assembly today, where he said that the party will not be a part of any appointments in the ECP too.

The PML-N leader said that the government lacked both sense and vision to deal with the political situation of the country.

“Political rivalry should not be converted into personal enmity. We also know how to reciprocate, we are ready for it but then the system will be disrupted,” he said before the House.

While referring to the protests outside the residence of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in London, the PML-N leader said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has the culture of not respecting the sanctity of a household.

“If the sanctity of Nawaz’s home is vilified then we will respond in kind. We know about those who planned the attack and we will go after them until the end,” he warned.

Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak had said on Sunday that the chief election commissioner and members of the ECP will be appointed until Wednesday.

The defence minister had said that said that the government had not talked to the opposition regarding the legislation for the extension of army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

"The government will talk to the opposition once the detailed verdict is issued," he said.
