Prince William made a heartbreaking promise to teary-eyed mother Diana right before her death.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana tumultuous marriage came to a crashing end in 1996 after years of incompatibility and alleged extra marital affairs.

When the divorce came through, Diana was stripped of her HRH titles on insistence of Charles despite the Queen's wish for her to keep it, reports Daily Mirror.

The change meant that Diana would curtsy to her former husband, her sons and other members of the Royal Family. The decision broke the Princess' heard who was then comforted by son William, promising to return the title when he makes King.

Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, talked about the mother-daughter conversation in book ‘A Royal Duty.'

"Don’t worry Mummy, I will give it back to you one day when I am King." Mr Burrell claims the conversation left Diana in tears.

William's promise to restore Diana's title however did not get fulfilled, since she died in a car crash a year after in 1997.
