KESC says power supply to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital 'normal'

KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) stated that the utility's supply network connecting to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) was normal and had no interruption.

The statement said: "The disruption in the power supply at the hospital came about when the internal 1000 KVA transformer owned and maintained by the hospital developed a fault".

Following the Administrator Karachi request the KESC intervened and provided the hospital a 1000 KVA transformer on humanitarian grounds, it said.

Power supply to the ASH remained suspended for more than 24 hours as a result of a major fault.

The standby generator which the hospital management has been running for prolonged hours feared failing after getting extremely heated and throwing the entire hospital’s working haywire endangering the lives of the patients.

EDO Health Imdadullah Siddiqui said that the KESC electricity supply was suspended yesterday morning at 11.00 A.M. and the hospital had to defer several surgical operations. However, the hospital management falling back on the standby generator managed to restore the lights, but the generator running for such long hours likely to fail after getting extremely heated.
