ISLAMABAD: Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been tasked by the government to convince Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmakers to take back their resignations.
Sources told Geo News that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has asked the JUI-F chief to contact MQM supremo Altaf Hussain and try convincing him for taking back resignations of his party’s MNAs and MPAs.
Despite his statement that Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq should accept the resignations, it is ironic that the government has given the task to Maulana Fazl.
The JUI-F chief had also telephoned the Speaker NA, who according to our sources, said he would not accept the resignations of MQM MNAs if they submit an application to withdraw their earlier action.
However speaking to a private TV channel later, the JUI-F chief said that decision regarding the resignations should not have been decided in haste as it would create a political crisis.
He also denied being given the task of mending ties with the MQM.
“MQM lawmakers should be brought back [in the assemblies] like PTI,” said Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
