In a shocking incident, a French national girl of Pakistani origin — disguised as a boy — was taken into custody in Mirpur City of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) for reportedly selling local girls abroad under the pretext of marriage, it emerged on Tuesday.

Taking action on an application filed by one of the victims' families, the police arrested the foreign national named Nargis, who was portraying herself as Shaaban. According to police, the suspect was a member of an international trafficking gang.

Nargis, while masquerading as a boy, used to visit AJK for marriage, the police revealed after initial interrogation.

After getting married to a girl, the suspect used to prepare her travel documents and sell her abroad.

In his report, the father of one of the victims who had fallen prey to her deceptive scheme told the police that the suspect had tied the knot with his daughter. Later, the suspect took her to France via Dubai.

Afterwards, the family came to know that their supposed son-in-law was, in fact, a girl, the father said, adding that the human trafficker's gang subjected his daughter to torture and tried to sell her at different locations.

Meanwhile, her family succeeded in tracing and relocating her to a safer place in France, her father told the police. He said that the suspect hails from Jhelum.

The victim's family identified the suspect when he again arrived in AJK to deceive any other girl.

According to a medical report issued by the District Headquarters Hospital Mirpur, the suspect is found to be a female, said the police officials.
