Beloved British actress Dame Joan Plowright has passed away at the age of 95.
The Oscar nominated actress died peacefully on January 16, 2025.
As per the statement released, Dame was surrounded by her family during her final time.
"It is with great sadness that the family of Dame Joan Plowright, the Lady Olivier, inform you that she passed away peacefully on January 16 2025 surrounded by her family at Denville Hall aged 95," Dame's family stated as quoted by BBC.
They went on to add, "She enjoyed a long and illustrious career across theatre, film and TV over seven decades until blindness made her retire. She cherished her last 10 years in Sussex with constant visits from friends and family, filled with much laughter and fond memories."
"She survived her many challenges with Plowright grit and courageous determination to make the best of them, and that she certainly did. Rest in peace, Joan..," the family added.
The actress' career spanned over seven decades. She was best known for her performances in theatre, where she also worked alongside her husband, the legendary actor Laurence Olivier.
However, her film career included her role in Enchanted April (1991), which earned her Academy Award nomination. Additionally, Dame won two Golden Globe awards in one night in 1992 for her work in Stalin and the film Enchanted April.
It is pertinent to mention that Dame is now survived by three children, who followed her into arts.
