Brandy and Monica recently opened up about the making of their hit song, The Boy is Mine.

During a recent appearance on Wednesday's episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the duo discussed what inspired the 1998 track.

While discussing the making of it Brandy confirmed that she got the idea from The Jerry Spinger Show.

When a show host questioned if the song's concept was sparked by the 1990's show, she confirmed, "Yes, I was a huge Jerry Springer fan, and one of the topics was, 'The boy is mine.' I'm like, 'Oh my god, song idea. Let's do this.'"

Following this flash of inspiration, Brandy knew that she wanted Monica to join her on the track.

Reportedly, this collaboration also served as a source of inspiration for a song of the same name on Ariana Grande's recent album, Eternal Sunshine

Recalling the time when she reached out to her co-artist, Brandy said, "I was always a fan of hers and I wanted to work with her, so I called her up and asked her to be a part of the song, and she said yes. And here we are."
