Queen Camilla sparks surprising concerns about royal heirloom piece

Queen Camilla brought sparkle and dazzle as the royal family hosted its third State Banquet of the year at Windsor Castle this week.

These banquets are the perfect time for the royals, especially the women, to put on their glamourous ensembles and the finest jewels on display.

King Charles and Queen Camilla welcomed Germany’s president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and first lady Elke Büdenbender on Wednesday. While Kate Middleton wowed the guests with a rare tiara, Queen Camilla wasn’t far behind with her choice of headpiece.

Several concerns were raised about a historic piece which dates back to a century and had been a favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Last month, the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara was taken away from the Edwardians: Age of Elegance exhibition at The King’s Gallery in London.

While it was assumed that Camilla had ordered for it to wear it at the Diplomatic Corps, concerns swept fans since King Charles’s wife was opted for emerald kokoshnik tiara. Moreover, it was never returned to the exhibition before its closing.

Fans were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief when Camilla stepped into St George’s Hall wearing the stunning generational piece.

Created in June 1893, the headpiece features festoon and fleur-de-lis designs as diamonds are set in gold and silver. It was designed for Queen Victoria by her German-born husband, Prince Albert.

The choice was made as it was also a nod to their German guests. Camilla had paired it with Fiona Clare’s teal lace gown and paired with diamond earrings and a massive emerald-and-diamond necklace.
