The Palace has been working out to keep focus on some urgent matters even as the royals struggle to keep up with the family drama, following Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor arrest.

King Charles, as the leader of the commonwealth and holding power for soft diplomacy, has been quietly playing a significant role to encourage peace and support discussions during a tough time.

While it is untraditional for members of the royal family to participate in sensitive and political matters, Charles has surprisingly been more open about his approach for the sake of peace and support UK government in those efforts.

Hence, on Tuesday, the King held a private audience with the Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at Buckingham Palace, who made his first official visit to London and also met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The visit had come after UK had resumed diplomatic relations with Syria in July 2025. It followed a visit by then foreign minister David Lammy to Damascus, the first visit to Syria by a British minister in 14 years.

In a statement by the Downing Street, the leaders had discussed a need for a “viable plan” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing Middle-East conflict. The escalation has had an economic impact and the two nations came to an agreement to “restore freedom of navigation.
