Tom Holland may be one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but he says the real pressure of playing Spider-Man has nothing to do with box office numbers.

Ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the actor reflected on why stepping into Peter Parker’s shoes still carries enormous meaning after nearly a decade in the role.

“Oh, absolutely it does. For me, it is the biggest responsibility of making these movies, is making sure that young kids have someone that they can look up to,” Holland told People magazine.

The actor made it clear that the admiration should not be directed at him–but at the hero he grew up loving.

“And I don’t mean that in me, I mean that in Peter Parker,” he explained.

“I’ve looked up to him for years and years. He’s been a role model to me since I was a young kid, and even since I started playing him. So it’s a responsibility that I don’t take lightly, and something that I think is really important.”

The latest film finds Peter Parker entering a new chapter after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, while Holland is entering one of his own.

Fresh off the success of The Odyssey and now married to Zendaya, the actor says he’s not ready to leave Marvel anytime soon.

“I will do it for as long as they’ll have me,” he recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “So if this movie does good, I guess we’ll see!”

For now, it seems Spider-Man has no plans to swing away just yet.
