Carlos Alcaraz battles back from set down to book US Open third-round spot

 

Carlos Alcaraz has cruised through to the third round of the U.S. Open after win against Jaime Faria.

The second-seed Alcaraz made a stunning comeback after dropping first set by winning eight straight games and beating Faria 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, and 6-2 on Wednesday night.

The defending champion, Alcaraz, after securing a spot in the U.S. Open third round, and said, “I wanted to be quick, to be honest. I’m not going to lie.”

The Spaniard went on to add that “But at the end, I realised that just playing four sets, it was really good for me to test everything physically, to test my body, how I feel, and tomorrow how I’m going to feel after this match.”

Alcaraz, the No. Seed lost his serve midway through the opening set but soon staged a comeback with some stunning tennis.

“After that I just tried to be focused and tried to stay calm and I’m thinking that good things are going to happen again,” Alcaraz reflected on the game.

Alcaraz, 23, has dropped his serve three times in this tournament, including twice on Wednesday, September 2, after losing his serve only three times in 101 games during his 2025 title.

Alcaraz is on a 16-match winning streak in Grand Slam tournaments, the longest of his career. He is 29-1 in his past 30 major matches.
