Carla Jeffery's family denies drug use rumours following death

The family of Disney Channel star Carla Jeffery is pushing back against online speculation that drugs played a role in her sudden death. 

Telling TMZ plainly, "she did not do drugs," they said. 

Jeffery, best known for playing Bree in Disney's ZOMBIES franchise, died September 1 in her California home at age 33. A family spokesperson confirmed there was no foul play involved and that police are not part of the investigation. 

The coroner's office has said the case remains pending, with no preliminary cause or manner of death determined, the family says it's awaiting the results of an autopsy before sharing further details, adding they want to be careful to ensure any information made public is accurate.

Jeffery's twin brother, actor Carlon Jeffery, shared a screenshot on Instagram of a text he'd sent her, apparently before her death, expressing love and encouragement. 

"I was just calling to see how your day went! I love you to the moon & back sis... I just want you to know how proud I am of you. Your resilience, your grace, your infectious smile that lights up a room. You are truly a light that shines bright. Don't let anyone.. dim that light.. even yourself. The light you carry is special and must be protected at all times... You are the best sister a brother could ask for. I pray we continue to grow closer to one another along this journey."

Jeffery, born in Houston, Texas, began acting as a child alongside her twin brother, later appearing in Curb Your Enthusiasm as part of the Black family storyline following Hurricane Katrina, along with roles in iCarly, Good Luck Charlie, Shake It Up, Scream Queens and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. 

She originated the role of Bree in Disney's 2018 Zombies telefilm, reprising it across the 2020 and 2022 sequels and voicing the character again in the 2024 animated series Zombies: The Re-Animated Series.
