The New England Patriots and Christian Gonzalez agreed to a four-year contract extension that would make him the NFL’s biggest paid cornerback.

According to multiple media reports, Gonzalez inked a four-year deal valued at $135 million, which also includes $102 million as guaranteed on late Monday night.

Previously, Devon Witherspoon had inked a four-year contract extension valued at $132 million, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks just last month.

The deal also included more than $101 million in guaranteed money.

Gonzalez, who was drafted in the 2023 NFL draft as the No. 17 pick has been an All-Pro and Pro Bowl cornerback, marking him the first time he was eligible for a contract extension this offseason.

The whopping $135 million contract extension has brought the rumours to an end surrounding the Patriots and whether Gonzalez would re-sign with them.

Gonzalez had fully been involved in training camp until he suffered a lower leg injury on August 10 after practising one-on-one with receiver A.K. Brown.

However, the star cornerback returned to practice on August 24 and visited Seattle for Wednesday’s season opener.

Gonzalez has been stormy in some of the games when everything was on the line, recording an interception late in an AFC Championship Game win over the Denver Broncos and racking up four tackles and three pass deflections in the Super Bowl LX loss to the Seahawks.

The Patriots now turns its focus to a regular-season opener against the Seahawks in a Super Bowl LX rematch on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
