Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's neighbourhood has taken a smart step to implement a new safety measure amid the royals' presence in the town.

Meghan and Harry, who are curently in the UK for an extended period, still retain their lavish Montecito mansion in California as their perminant home.

The couple's US neighbourhood has undergone a big change, implementing a foolproof security and a protection measure.

Montecito faces a high risk of wildfires and other severe weather. In response, the town's fire department and water district have partnered to create two new temporary housing sites for firefighters.

The facilities will be activated during periods of elevated fire risk to ensure faster response times in emergencies.

"By proactively positioning firefighters at these two locations on the far ends of our district, we can greatly reduce the time it takes to arrive on scene of a vegetation fire in remote wildland areas where our fire risk is the highest," according to Montecito Fire Chief Brian Fallon.

"We are pleased to collaborate on these important initiatives to increase protection for residents," Montecito Water District General Manager Nick Turner added.

Another issue in the area is mudslides, which have caused homes in the neighbourhood to be evacuated in the past.

Experts are concerned that once the summer season is over and rains fall again, more floods could be on their way.
