The Prince of Wales was due to attend a special event at Everton Football Club alone on Thursday, following a week that had taken him from Prince George’s first day at Eton College to King Harald V’s state funeral in Oslo.
Instead, Kate surprised royal watchers by joining her husband in Liverpool, making their first joint public appearance since Prince Harry returned to the UK last month.
The couple arrived at Hill Dickinson Stadium to mark World Suicide Prevention Day and support a new initiative designed to help people recognise when someone may be struggling before they reach a crisis.
Kate brought a polished touch to the occasion in a teal two-piece suit by Edeline Lee.
She completed the look with her Laura Lombardi 'Portrait' necklace, which she had also worn earlier in the week for Prince George’s first day at Eton.
William and Kate met sports stars supporting 'On Your Side', a new tool created by their foundation to help people involved in sport recognise warning signs and know how to offer support before a situation develops into a crisis.
