King Charles begins pivotal week with Queen Camilla by his side at Balmoral

The King and Queen Camilla were pictured making their way to their familiar Sunday church, Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral, ahead of a significant week for the monarch.

Charles is preparing to bring some of the biggest names in artificial intelligence together in Scotland. 

He is due to meet senior figures from some of the world's most influential companies, including Nvidia, Anthropic, Google DeepMind and OpenAI. 

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang and Google DeepMind co-founder Sir Demis Hassabis are among those expected to attend, alongside IonQ chairman and chief executive Niccolo de Masi.

A royal source told The Times that Charles wants to “convene, listen and encourage.” 

His approach reflects the role Charles has adopted on other major global issues, as he asks: “How do we develop AI for the good of humanity?”

Rather than presenting himself as an expert, the monarch is expected to provide a neutral setting where specialists can exchange ideas and consider the responsibilities that accompany rapid technological progress.

The King is also understood to be interested in whether a shared set of principles could help guide the development of AI, acknowledging that establishing such a framework would be far from straightforward.
