Stephen Root becomes first GTA 6 cast member to confirm his role: full story inside

After the GTA 6 exclusive gameshow reveal on Netflix, the first cast member of Rockstar’s next big title has been revealed.

Stephen Root disclosed this in an interview with Associated Press on Monday, September 14, 2026.

When asked if he can confirm he’s set to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI, set for launch on November 19, his straightforward response is what set the internet ablaze.

“Yeeaahhh, you’re gonna see me in that,” Root responded.

Root highlights that his role has been a topic among the GTA community since last year based on how identical his voice is, through the animated series King of the Hill.

Root will be playing Brian Heder, a drug trafficker and key character in the protagonist’s buzzing adventures in the game of the decade: GTA 6.

“I think from the first rollout of GTA they were doing maybe almost a year ago they had my character in there.

"And there are too many people who knew me from King of the Hill and my voice! So I think that secret kind of got divulged then,” Root added.

“I’m so happy to be involved with it. It’s an amazing thing to look at,” Root explained his excitement to be a part of a buzzworthy project that is setting new trends in open-world games.

Rockstar Games revealed the first exclusive gameplay footage of GTA 6 in a Netflix premiere on August 27, with the launch now slated for November 19, 2026.
