Perez Hilton's family gives health update month after suicide attempt

Perez Hilton's family has shared a new update on his condition, more than a month after the celebrity blogger's mental health crisis and apparent self-harm incident on August 4. 

In a message posted to Hilton's website, his family wrote: "It's been more than a month since the events of August 4, and we wanted to share an update with everyone who has continued to reach out, send messages, and share well wishes for Perez and our family." 

They confirmed that "after weeks in the hospital receiving treatment for his physical injuries, Perez entered a residential treatment program where he can focus fully on his mental health and recovery."

The family cautioned that his recovery remains ongoing, with no clear timeline yet. 

"This was an important next step, but there's still a long road ahead," they wrote. 

"Perez is expected to remain in residential treatment for several more weeks, potentially longer, depending on what his treatment team believes is best for his recovery." 

They noted he still doesn't have access to his phone or laptop, and that his contact with loved ones remains limited so he can focus entirely on treatment. 

The statement also pushed back on what the family described as false reports circulating online about his current condition, and addressed the disturbing reality that some people online had mocked or celebrated what happened. 

"Whatever anyone may think of 'Perez Hilton,' his past, or things he has said over the years, there's a real human being behind the name," the family wrote. 

"Mario is a father of three, a son, a brother, and a friend who reached a point where he was struggling so deeply that he thought the people he loved would somehow be better off without him... No one has to forget his past or accept his apologies. But we hope we can all agree that celebrating someone's suicide attempt crosses a line. Three children came frighteningly close to losing their father forever. There is nothing funny or entertaining about that."

The family also confirmed that Hilton's three children remain safe and stable in the care of their grandmother, who has stepped in full-time during his recovery. 

Hilton, 48, was hospitalised on August 4 after Miami-Dade County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of an apparent self-harm incident during a TikTok livestream. 

His talent management team, Golden Artists Entertainment, said in the immediate aftermath that they hadn't been able to reach him directly but that their focus remained on his health and privacy.
