Survivor remembers longtime editor Finian Shea Johnson with Season 51 premiere tribute

Survivor honours their longtime crew member and TV editor, Finian Shea Johnson, on the long-running season at their Season 51 opener on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Finian Shea Johnson, an editor on the show, had worked on 78 episodes of Survivor before he died in May at age 48

The show remembered its longtime crew member with a moving tribute that appeared at the end of the episode, that read, “In loving memory of Finian Shea Johnson.”

Johnson went on to work on the series back in 2023 and edited 78 episodes, according to his IMDb page.

Survivor 50 brings an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program for him and his co-editors in 2026.

Series host Jeff Probst in an interview with Entertainment Weekly told that Johnson joined for season 45 and began his tenure when the show’s total length was extended to 90 minutes.

Probst also revealed that Johnson was optimistic of getting the edit done for Survivor 51, saying, “And he absolutely believed it would happen.”

But as fate would have it, he died on May 25 and couldn't see Survivor 51 reach its final cut.

So far, his cause of death still remains unknown.

Before his time on Survivor, Johnson worked on several other projects that include The Amazing Race, The Voice, Project Runway and The Bachelor franchise’s The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad and Bachelor in Paradise.
