Paramount Warner Bros. deal faces another major setback

The fight over Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery is getting messier as another group has taken legal action to stop the deal.

The Block the Merger coalition has filed an emergency request asking a court to stop Paramount from buying Warner Bros. Discovery.

The deak is worth around like $111 billion and if it goes through, the two companies will come under the same ownership and become one of the biggest entertainment businesses in Hollywood.

The group says the deal could hurt competition and may also affect jobs and opportunities in the entertainment industry.

More than 1,000 people from Hollywood have already spoken out against the deal. Joaquin Phoenix, Ben Stiller and Kristen Stewart are among those people who signed a letter asking for the merger to be stopped.

The deal, however, has also faced a legal fight from 12 states. In July, their attorneys general argued that bringing the two companies together could reduce competition in movies and television.

Paramount rejected those concerns as the company said that the merger would help it compete with big streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon.

On September 22, Paramount reached a settlement with the 12 states, removing one major legal problem for the deal.

But the opposition has not ended. The Writers Guild of America also challenged the merger, while the Block the Merger coalition continues to fight against it.
