KARACHI: The police was targeted thrice in the metropolis on Friday resulting in the death of a policeman while several others were injured.
The latest attack took place in the North Karachi area when a cracker targeting the police failed to detonate and was later defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
Earlier a hand grenade was hurled at a police mobile near Tibet Centre. According to police, a policeman and a passer-by were injured in the grenade explosion. Police further said the attack was carried out on the police mobile belonging to Paredy Police Station.
Immediately after this attack unknown gunmen opened fire at a mobile of the Brigade police Station. An ASI and one other policeman were injured in this attack. The ASI later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The police have suspended two SHOs and a DSP for negligence. Prior to these attacks, a policeman was targeted in the Qaidabad area on Thursday night. A policeman was also shot and injured in the Orangi Town area of the city.
Police records state that 137 policemen have lost their lives as a result of being shot or bomb attacks in Karachi this year.
