KARACHI: Power supply to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) has remained suspended for the last 24 hours, as Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) despite promises has as yet failed to replace the worn out transformer, Geo News reported.
The standby generator which the hospital management has been running for prolonged hours feared failing after getting extremely heated and throwing the entire hospital’s working haywire endangering the lives of the patients.
EDO Health Imdadullah Siddiqui said that KESC electricity supply was suspended yesterday morning at 11.00 A.M. and the hospital had to defer several surgical operations. However, the hospital management falling back on the standby generator managed to restore the lights, but the generator running for such long hours likely to fail after getting extremely heated.
On the other hand, KESC officials said that the 1000 KV transformer within the hospital premises went out of order because of the negligence of hospital management. However, on the request of Karachi Administrator the transformer was being replaced. Despite all the claims of KESC the transformer hasn’t yet been replaced.
