Rehman directs enhanced security for Red Zone
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik on Tuesday directed that Red Zone area be extended till Embassy Road immediately and its entry be allowed only to authorize persons having valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) which will be verified on the spot.

Chairing a meeting held here to review law and order and security situation of Capital, he said all visitors to National Assembly should be scrutinized and extra security be made for present session of the Parliament.

The meeting was attended by Federal Secretary Interior, Additional Secretary, Chief Commissioner, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Inspector General of Police (IG), Islamabad, Director General of National Crisis Management Cell, DIG Security, Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad and SSP (Operation) Islamabad.

Rehman Malik reviewed the ongoing security situation of Islamabad and directed IGP and Islamabad Administration to enhance security measures and red alert for Red Zone should continue in view of serious threat.

He further directed that all vehicles having unauthorized lights/police plates should be removed immediately. Any such vehicles can be confiscated and legal action be taken against the driver.
