KARACHI: Ajmal Pahari, the man accused of more than one hundred counts of manslaughter in the financial hub of Pakistan, was released from Central Jail, Karachi here on Friday, Geo News reported.

According to Central Jail authorities, Pahari has been released after he was acquitted or securing bail in all cases registered against him.
He had been detained for the last four months under the maintenance of public order (MPO).

Earlier, Shahnawaz alias Ajmal Pahari through his counsel submitted that he had been in detention under section 3 (1) of the West Pakistan Maintenance of Public Ordinance, 1960 since 20-9-2012 due to presumptuous reasons without any justification or validity.

Pahari, who was arrested on 18-3-2011 and was acquitted in eleven charges of violent crime. He pleaded with the court that he was granted bail in four remaining cases, but even after acquittal the police continued to detain him illegally without constituting a Board under Section 5 (9) of Maintenance of Public Ordinance.

Crime Investigation Department’s (CID) Anti Extremist Cell (AEC) arrested him in March 2011 from New Karachi.
