ISLAMABAD: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said on Wednesday that he has made it clear to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that it was the constitutional right of the provincial government to put conditions on Rangers powers.
Speaking to journalists after meeting with PM Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad, Qaim Ali Shah said, “It is the right of [the] province to call in officials of any institution conditionally or unconditionally under article 147 of the Constitution. Sindh Assembly made a decision on Rangers and gave it powers to carry out operations against target killing, extortion and terrorists.”
The Premier has directed the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to resolve the issues of Sindh, he added.
The federation has to accept our viewpoint after 60 days when Rangers power issue surfaces again if Ch. Nisar fails to resolve the matter.
He added that they were satisfied to some extent, however, talks with the federal government will continue until the matter is resolved.
The issue of expenses on Rangers was not raised in the meeting with the PM, Qaim Ali Shah said adding that corruption is a provincial matter and the anti-corruption department was working on it.
To a question, Qaim Ali Shah said former president Asif Ali Zardari did not face any case, adding that he faces health issues, however, he would return to Pakistan.
